Head shot of Shannon Farris

Hello!  I’m Shannon.  Entrepreneur, coach, consultant.  Animal lover, joy seeker, life-long learner.  I live in a gorgeous seaside town in Nova Scotia where I take long walks on the beach, bask in sunrise and sunset, find joy in nature and get into the ocean as often as I can.

Once an Entrepreneur who owned and operated a wellness clinic, I am now focused on sharing knowledge with others.  I enjoy helping people reach their personal and business goals with renewed passion, a sense of ease and dare I say, with a little joy in the process.

But how did I get here?

Career

Prior to becoming an entrepreneur I worked in the corporate sector.  I was very fortunate to start my career with The Walt Disney Company straight out of University, and later I was part of the launch team for Disney Cruise Line.   I look back on my time at Disney with incredible fondness, and with the knowledge that the rest of my career was forever shaped by those years.

Eventually I got the itch to move home and I decided to go back to university for a Masters Degree in Education.  Afterward I began managing a hotel full-time and teaching university business & tourism courses in the evenings.

If you have dreamed of opening your own business you’ll understand that by this time I was longing to make that my own reality.  For the next decade I owned and operated a wellness clinic.  From writing the business plan, coordinating construction, recruiting my team, marketing to build a clientele, training other operators in the industry, growing the business and eventually selling it, I’ve been through the entire business life cycle. It was an MBA by doing.

No matter where I worked over the years I always ended up in the role of trainer.  It was a common theme and it naturally transitioned into a consulting career.   Today I combine the simple transfer of knowledge (training), with the added focus of working with people to enhance their knowledge, skills and performance (coaching).

On a personal note

I grew up in a very small town in Nova Scotia and I loved it.  We were in the country so my childhood revolved around playing outdoors and knowing everyone.  When I was a teenager I joined army cadets and it was an experience that shaped the rest of my life.  I learned leadership skills and discipline, I got to travel to other parts of the country and I was always meeting new people.  I believe that experience gave me the courage to forever try new things.

Years ago I joined a friend when he got a tattoo that said “continuous improvement” in Japanese letters I believe.  It left a mark on me too…  I have reflected on what those words mean to me over the years.  I am a life-long learner, and not just in the traditional sense of college/university.  I once flew to California to become a Taebo Instructor with Billy Blanks (remember that fad?!?), I went to California and Denver to become a Louise Hay Certified Heal Your Life Workshop Leader and Life Coach, I took up bodyboarding in my forties and went to Nicaragua for a week long coaching camp.   I even taught myself WordPress and built this website from scratch.

I have worked and lived in Florida, Ontario, Alberta, The Bahamas, Italy and Nova Scotia, and I’ve been blessed with opportunities to travel and explore many parts of this world of ours.  I have now settled into a quiet phase of my life with plenty of work-life balance and finding joy in every day.

You will find me taking walks on the beach, basking in the sun and the moon, playing with my adorable cats, porch sitting with a good coffee, taking a zillion photos on my iPhone and catching waves as often as I can.

Colleagues and peers describe me as:

Detailed, organized, doer, determined, leader, kind, aware, intelligent, strong, listener, problem solver, honest, confident, compassionate, creative, gets sh*t done, inspiring, fixer, loyal, open.
